Shallow Inlet by Yu Cheng

ARTIST NOTES: The time I visited Shallow Inlet, I was so lucky to see a large group of black swans. I remembered listening to Saint Saens’s “The Swan” on the way there which I hoped would bring me the luck. The place was so calm and peaceful and made me feel that time had stopped. I hope that the swans are still visiting Shallow Inlet and continue visiting for many years to come.

ARTIST BIO

I am passionate about painting pictures, as I can get away into the world of my art whenever I need some time for myself in the midst of my busy daily life. I currently work as the secretary for a non-for-profit organization and look after my family and two children.

I have loved painting and drawing since I was young and started to learn Chinese painting from the age of eight, with a teacher from the art institution of my hometown. I won state and national children’s art competitions in Chinese painting after five years of learning. My teacher recommended that I start learning sketching and acrylic painting in the youth art intuitions in my hometown to develop techniques used in western style paintings. Later, I was accepted in Tongji University to study Architecture and Urban design after graduating from high school. I also kept learning acrylic painting at the Shanghai Art Institution during the summer and winter holidays.

After migrating to Australia with my husband, I have focused on my family and children, but painting has always been a way of rewarding myself, and to meditate and maintain positivity. I am often inspired by books and music, and I aim to paint my understandings of life into my artwork – that there is always hope and love.
